Our client, a pioneer in aerospace innovation, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Aerospace Systems Engineer specializing in Advanced Propulsion Systems. This critical, fully remote role is based out of **Durham, North Carolina**, allowing top talent to contribute from anywhere within the US. You will be at the forefront of developing next-generation propulsion technologies that will define the future of aviation and space exploration. This position requires a deep understanding of complex aerospace systems, rigorous analytical skills, and a proven ability to lead challenging engineering projects from concept through to execution.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design, analysis, and integration of advanced aerospace propulsion systems, focusing on novel technologies such as electric, hybrid-electric, and sustainable aviation fuels.
  • Develop system requirements, architectures, and performance specifications for new propulsion concepts.
  • Conduct detailed performance analysis, simulations, and trade studies using advanced modeling tools.
  • Oversee and guide the work of a team of engineers in the development and testing of propulsion components and subsystems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including aerodynamics, structures, controls, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Define and execute system validation and verification plans, including ground and flight testing.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and industry trends in aerospace propulsion.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and findings to management and stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in aerospace systems engineering, with a significant focus on propulsion systems.
  • Proven experience with advanced propulsion technologies (e.g., electric motors, batteries, fuel cells, sustainable fuels).
  • Strong knowledge of system dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and control systems as applied to aerospace propulsion.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and managing complex technical projects.
  • Expertise in simulation and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, CFD software).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident authorized to work in the US.
