Job Description
The Lab Technician supports research and development and quality control activities by logging samples, performing laboratory testing, monitoring product condition, and maintaining a high standard of lab upkeep. This role uses instrumental and wet chemistry analysis to ensure products meet reliability and specification requirements, and contributes to both day-to-day monitoring and initial start-up authorization of production processes.
Responsibilities
+ Log incoming samples accurately and maintain clear, organized records in the laboratory information management system (LIMS).
+ Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests, including pipetting, titrations, viscosity measurements (Auto viscometer), flash point testing, fuel dilution analysis, FT-IR, and ICP analysis.
+ Support condition monitoring by running lab tests that assess product performance and fluid condition over time.
+ Back up the quality department by assisting with quality control testing and documentation as needed.
+ Conduct production floor quality checks approximately 5% of the time to verify workmanship standards and product conformity.
+ Prepare and label samples with barcodes and ensure all samples are tracked accurately throughout the testing process.
+ Use the LIMS system to prepare test results, generate test reports, and communicate findings to relevant teams.
+ Perform receiving, in-process testing, and final result documentation, ensuring all data is accurate and complete.
+ Maintain laboratory quality standards at all times, including adherence to established procedures and good laboratory practices.
+ Keep detailed and continuous records of test results, observations, and any deviations, and complete all required reports and documentation.
+ Participate in lab upkeep by keeping work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety and quality requirements.
+ Collaborate closely with a small lab team covering quality, product development, and condition monitoring to support both R&D and quality initiatives.
+ Contribute to a positive company culture by communicating effectively, working collaboratively, and demonstrating strong teamwork.
Essential Skills
+ At least 1 year of hands-on experience working with ICP instrumentation (must have).
+ Practical experience working with fluids in a laboratory or testing environment.
+ Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques, including titrations and pipetting.
+ Experience performing analytical chemistry tests such as viscosity, flash point, fuel dilution, and related measurements.
+ Ability to work with and navigate a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for data entry and reporting.
+ Strong understanding of laboratory quality standards, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) practices.
+ Ability to follow detailed procedures and standard operating protocols accurately and consistently.
+ Effective communication skills, with the ability to document results clearly and share information with team members.
+ Demonstrated teamwork skills, verified by references, and the ability to contribute positively to a small lab group.
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing multiple samples and tests simultaneously.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is a plus.
+ Experience using FT-IR for analytical testing.
+ Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment such as Auto viscometers.
+ Experience in both R&D and quality-focused laboratory work is beneficial.
+ Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-growing environment with evolving processes.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot test issues or unexpected results.
+ Ability to adapt to flex hours and occasional schedule changes based on production needs.
+ References that can speak to the candidate's teamwork, day-to-day responsibilities, and use of relevant laboratory tools and skills.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site position with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 12:00 PM to 10:30 PM, including a 1-hour lunch break. Expect approximately 5-7 hours of overtime per week. Depending on production needs, there may be flexible hours on Fridays, and in some cases Friday attendance may not be required while still ensuring a 40-hour workweek. About 95% of the time is spent working in a modern, high-end laboratory environment, and about 5% on the production floor conducting quality control checks. The lab team consists of three people who collectively cover Quality, Product Development, and Condition Monitoring, providing strong exposure to multiple types of analysis and both quality and R&D work. The company invests heavily in its lab, including LIMS, automated manufacturing lines, and well-equipped lab space, and offers comfortable employee areas such as a lounge, entertainment area, and a full kitchen in the break room.
