Senior Controls Engineer (Remote)

Job Description

Our client, a leader in industrial automation and manufacturing technology, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Controls Engineer to join our dynamic, fully remote team. This critical role will focus on the design, development, implementation, and support of advanced control systems for automated machinery and production lines. You will leverage your deep expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, and system integration to drive innovation and operational excellence. Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) logic for various automation systems, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.
  • Create and program Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for intuitive operator control and monitoring.
  • Specify and integrate industrial hardware components, including sensors, actuators, drives, and vision systems.
  • Develop and implement sophisticated motion control strategies for complex machinery.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration of control systems into overall machine design.
  • Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of automation equipment, often performing these tasks remotely or coordinating on-site support.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including electrical schematics, PLC code comments, and user manuals.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and maintenance teams, resolving control system issues promptly.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in automation technology, PLCs, robotics, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the controls engineering discipline within the company.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial controls engineering, with a strong background in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
  • Proficiency in HMI/SCADA software development (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Ignition, WinCC).
  • Solid understanding of industrial networking protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience with motion control, robotics, and servo systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience with machine safety standards and implementation.
