Occupational Therapist, Acute Care

Parker, CO full-time ✦ New

Job Description

As an Occupational Therapist in Acute Care at UCHealth, you will provide evidence-based, patient-centered therapy services to adults with complex medical and surgical conditions in a fast-paced hospital environment. Working within UCHealths innovative, diverse, and inclusive culture, you will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case managers, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote safe, functional recovery and successful discharge outcomes.

In this role, you will perform comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, including assessment of functional mobility, activities of daily living, cognition, vision and perceptual skills, strength, coordination, and activity tolerance. You will develop and implement individualized treatment plans that address self-care, functional transfers, upper extremity function, cognition, and adaptive strategies, while considering each patients medical status, goals, and discharge environment. You will provide timely treatment interventions such as therapeutic activities and exercises, ADL retraining, splinting, energy conservation strategies, cognitive retraining, and patient and family education.

You will be responsible for coordinating with the acute care team to support early mobility and safe discharge planning, providing recommendations for durable medical equipment, home modifications, and the appropriate level of post-acute services such as inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, home health, or outpatient therapy. You will document evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries clearly and efficiently in the electronic health record, adhering to all regulatory, professional, and UCHealth documentation standards.

As part of UCHealths commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth, you will participate in unit and department-based quality initiatives, evidence-based practice projects, and interdisciplinary rounds. You will contribute to mentoring students and newer staff when appropriate and stay current with best practices and regulatory requirements affecting acute care occupational therapy. UCHealth supports ongoing professional development through education, training, and opportunities for advancement within the healthcare and medical services system.

This position is ideal for a clinician who thrives in a collaborative, acute hospital setting, values diversity and inclusion, and is committed to delivering excellent, compassionate care. You will work varying shifts that may include weekends and holidays based on patient needs and departmental coverage. In return, UCHealth offers competitive compensation, comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits, along with a supportive environment that encourages learning, leadership, and career development.
