Interventional Radiologic Technologist

Fargo, ND full-time ✦ New

Job Description

Essentia Health is seeking an Interventional Radiologic Technologist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our integrated health system serving patients across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. In this role, you will play a key part in delivering patient-centered, procedural imaging care in a fast-paced interventional radiology environment, working side by side with interventional radiologists, nurses, and other members of the care team.

As an Interventional Radiologic Technologist, you will support a wide range of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as vascular angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, biopsies, drain placements, embolizations, and other image-guided interventions. You will be responsible for preparing procedure rooms and equipment, verifying patient identity and procedure details, and ensuring that all necessary supplies, implants, and contrast materials are available and properly documented.

You will position patients and operate fluoroscopic and other imaging equipment to obtain high-quality images that guide the physician throughout the procedure, adjusting technique and equipment settings to optimize image quality while adhering to radiation safety and ALARA principles. You will apply sterile technique, assist in establishing and maintaining a sterile field, and anticipate the needs of the interventional radiologist during procedures. Your role includes assisting with venous access, contrast administration under direction, and monitoring patient status and comfort throughout the procedure.

Patient-centered care is central to this position. You will explain procedures, address patient and family questions, and help alleviate anxiety through clear communication and a calm, compassionate presence. You will monitor vital signs and patient responses, recognize and promptly communicate any changes to the care team, and assist with emergent situations as needed. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, including procedure details, imaging logs, contrast usage, implants, and radiation dose tracking, will be an important part of your daily responsibilities.

Within Essentia Healths culture of compassion, collaboration, and community focus, you will work closely with nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff to coordinate safe and efficient patient flow. This includes participating in pre-procedure verification processes and time-outs, assisting with patient transport and positioning, and supporting post-procedure recovery activities within your scope of practice. You will also help maintain a clean, safe, and organized procedure environment, including room turnover between cases.

This position requires strong technical skills and attention to detail. You will perform daily equipment checks, basic troubleshooting, and quality control tests on imaging systems and associated devices, escalating issues to appropriate technical or vendor support when necessary. You will remain current with evolving interventional techniques, devices, and protocols by participating in ongoing education and training opportunities supported by Essentia Health, reflecting our commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

You will be expected to follow all organizational policies and regulatory standards, including infection prevention, radiation safety, medication handling, and privacy and confidentiality requirements. As part of a hospital-based interventional radiology service, this role may involve variable shifts, on-call rotation, and occasional weekend or holiday coverage to support urgent and emergent procedures.

At Essentia Health, you will be part of a team that values holistic care, innovation, and diversity. We offer a supportive environment that promotes work-life balance, teamwork, and opportunities for career advancement within the broader Healthcare & Medical Services department. This on-site, patient-facing role is ideal for a detail-oriented technologist who is committed to high-quality imaging, safety, and compassionate service to patients and the communities we serve.

Essentia Health offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that may include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, retirement savings options such as a 401k, paid time off, and access to professional development resources. This position provides a meaningful opportunity to use your technical expertise and clinical skills to make a direct, positive impact on patient outcomes every day.
