**Job Title: Stationary Engineer**
**Job Description**
The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains boilers, compressors, chillers, and HVAC systems in a manufacturing environment, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant utilities. This role also supports the installation and maintenance of vertical and horizontal packaging and production equipment, performs preventive maintenance, and uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders and parts. The position requires strict adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and standard work practices, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
**Responsibilities**
+ Operate and maintain boilers, compressors, chillers, and HVAC systems to ensure continuous and efficient plant operation.
+ Monitor and adjust boiler and utility equipment to maintain required steam quality and maximize energy efficiency.
+ Perform routine preventive maintenance on mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and utility systems to minimize downtime.
+ Assist with the installation, setup, and maintenance of vertical and horizontal packaging and production equipment.
+ Use the CMMS system to create, track, and close work orders, and to order and manage replacement parts.
+ Conduct steam and water testing as required and make system adjustments based on test results.
+ Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment issues in a timely manner.
+ Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance by following proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) and standard work procedures (SWP).
+ Immediately report any accidents, hazardous incidents, or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to secure the area.
+ Follow plant engineering and utility operator best practices to support reliable, safe operation of all systems.
+ Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in the CMMS.
+ Work collaboratively with maintenance technicians and other departments to support production goals and resolve equipment issues.
+ Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and site safety rules while working on the production floor.
**Essential Skills**
+ Minimum of 4 years of stationary engineering experience in a manufacturing environment or large commercial facility.
+ Valid City of Chicago Stationary Engineer License.
+ Hands-on experience operating and maintaining boiler systems, including steam generation and distribution.
+ Proficiency with HVAC systems, including troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
+ Experience working with compressors, chillers, and related utility systems.
+ Ability to perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on plant equipment.
+ Familiarity with electrical systems as they relate to plant utilities and equipment maintenance.
+ Experience using a CMMS to manage work orders and parts inventory.
+ Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices for plant utilities and production equipment.
+ Understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO) and standard work procedures (SWP) and ability to apply them consistently.
+ Ability to perform steam and water testing and adjust equipment based on test results.
+ Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and utility-related issues.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
+ Experience as a utility operator, maintenance technician, or in plant engineering is beneficial.
+ Experience in plumbing and mechanical systems within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
+ Exposure to packaging equipment, including vertical and horizontal packaging machinery.
+ Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.
+ Comfort working in a fast-paced, production-oriented facility with changing priorities.
+ Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
+ Attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy within the CMMS.
+ Adaptability to a facility with a defined operational horizon, with operations expected to continue through May 2026.
**Work Environment**
This role is based in a manufacturing plant environment supporting production and packaging operations. The work involves regular interaction with boilers, compressors, chillers, HVAC systems, and production and packaging equipment, using a CMMS to manage tasks. The environment is industrial, with exposure to noise, heat, and active production lines, and requires consistent adherence to safety protocols and personal protective equipment.
