Job Description
Rachel Contracting seeks a Project Engineer to support heavy civil and specialty construction projects across the Midwest. Reporting to the Project Manager, you’ll assist with planning, submittals, quantity takeoffs, and cost tracking for demolition, earthwork, utilities, and environmental remediation work. Partner closely with field teams to resolve design issues, coordinate subcontractors, and uphold strict safety and quality standards. This role offers hands-on field exposure, strong mentorship, and clear growth into project management within a collaborative, safety-first culture.
Support project planning, scheduling, and logistics for heavy civil and specialty construction projects
Prepare and review submittals, RFIs, and project documentation
Perform quantity takeoffs, cost tracking, and change order support
Coordinate with field supervisors, subcontractors, and vendors to maintain schedule and budget
Assist with interpreting plans and specifications and resolving design or constructability issues
Monitor work for compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements
Participate in job site meetings and progress reporting
Support project closeout, as-builts, and documentation turnover
Collaborate with estimating and preconstruction teams as needed

Civil engineering fundamentals
Construction project coordination
Heavy civil construction methods (earthwork, utilities, demolition)
Reading and interpreting plans and specifications
Quantity takeoffs and estimating
Cost tracking and change management
Construction scheduling (e.g., Primavera P6 or MS Project)
Autodesk Civil 3D or similar design software
Bluebeam or similar PDF markup tools
MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Knowledge of OSHA construction safety practices
Submittal and RFI management

Valid driver’s license
