Job Description

PacifiCorp seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support the Engineering & Design team in the Energy & Utilities sector. In this role, you will design, analyze and upgrade mechanical systems for power generation, transmission and renewable energy projects, ensuring safety, reliability and regulatory compliance. You will perform mechanical calculations, develop drawings and specifications, support construction and maintenance, and troubleshoot field issues. Working cross-functionally, you’ll help modernize the grid, improve asset performance and advance renewable integration in a safety-focused, mission-driven environment with strong benefits and career growth.
Design and analyze mechanical systems and components for power generation, transmission and renewable energy facilities
Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports
Apply relevant codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM, OSHA) to ensure compliance and safety
Support construction, commissioning and maintenance activities with field engineering and troubleshooting
Perform root-cause analysis and recommend reliability and performance improvements for mechanical equipment
Collaborate with electrical, civil and operations teams on multidisciplinary utility projects
Review vendor submittals and coordinate with suppliers and contractors
Contribute to asset management, life-cycle planning and grid modernization initiatives
Support environmental and regulatory compliance documentation for mechanical systems
Promote a strong safety culture and adherence to PacifiCorp policies and procedures
Mechanical system design
Finite element analysis (FEA)
3D CAD and drafting (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
Stress, thermal and vibration analysis
Power plant and balance-of-plant equipment knowledge
Rotating equipment and piping systems
Codes and standards (ASME, API, ASTM, OSHA)
Project engineering and coordination
Data analysis and technical reporting
Root-cause failure analysis and reliability engineering

Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations for utility operations
