REPORTS TO:Chief Department Engineer & Project Department Engineer

SUPERVISES:Engineer I, Designers and Draftspersons

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
\nResponsible for moderately complex design calculations and drawing development for the construction, maintenance, and repair of maritime vessels and shipboard systems including structural, propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic mechanics.
\n\nComplies with Austal's employee handbook general guidelines, company procedures and policies.
\n\n\n
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
\nGeneral:\n2 to 6 years of relevant engineering experience in the manufacturing, construction (or similar) industry, shipbuilding industry preferred
\n\nExcellent written and oral communication skills
\n\nPossesses leadership skills, Ability to help grow company culture.
\n\nCapable of training and developing level 1 engineers
\n\nUnderstanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines
\n\nAbility to interact with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers.
\n\nProficient in the use of AutoCAD, and MS Office products
\n\n\n\nPreferred:
\nExperienced in Steel and Aluminum Ship Construction
\n\nWorking knowledge of ship and propulsion systems
\n\nWorking knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.)
\n\nWorking knowledge of modular construction methods
\n\nWorking knowledge in design and construction of US Navy vessels
\n\nWorking knowledge of shock design
\n\nExperience or knowledge of FEA methods, FEMAP / NASTRAN
\n\nWorking knowledge of composite shafting
\n\n\n\n\n
Electrical Engineer Specific Requirements:
\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree
\n\nWorking knowledge of power distribution, motor controllers, variable frequency drives, lighting systems, and communication systems
\n\nWorking knowledge or familiarity of IEEE standards, ABS rules, IEC standards, SOLAS, Military Specifications, and/or NEC

  • May provide input to evaluations of Engineers I, Designers and Draftspersons

LIAISES WITH: Engineers, Production Personnel, Customer, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management and Equipment Suppliers
