Position Overview

Components Express is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer II to support the development of custom cable and harness solutions. This role plays a critical part in evaluating design feasibility, developing prototypes, and delivering cost-effective solutions that meet both customer and manufacturing requirements.

This is a highly collaborative position where you’ll partner closely with sales, production, and purchasing teams—bringing designs from concept through production.

What you will do/

• Evaluate feasibility of cable and harness assembly designs
• Develop and refine engineering solutions based on customer requirements
• Create engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
• Identify appropriate materials and components, including connectors, contacts, and cables
• Build prototypes and support testing requirements and procedures
• Analyze cost-benefit considerations to ensure efficient, practical solutions
• Design product packaging and create specification sheets
• Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, production, and purchasing teams to ensure smooth project execution

Support continuous improvement in product design and manufacturability

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Experience designing for manufacturing environments (metal, plastics, or industrial production)
• Hands-on experience with cable and harness components (connectors, contacts, raw cable)
• Proficiency with CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor preferred or similar)
• Ability to create accurate drawings, assemblies, and documentation
• Strong understanding of engineering documentation (BOMs, test procedures, specifications)
• Proven ability to work on cross-functional technical projects
• Strong communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions independently
