Maintenance Manager
Job Description
The Maintenance and Facilities Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance-related activities within the company. This includes oversight and service of all physical aspects of the plant, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigerant systems; maintenance of production equipment, physical plant, utilities, and grounds; and compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Provides overall direction to Maintenance employees and contractors engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, equipment, and maintenance of building, grounds, and utility systems. The position is also responsible for partnering with production management to proactively address issues or challenges and equipment needs to reduce potential downtime and schedule repairs accordingly. This role ensures optimal equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and maintains compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (i.e FDA, USDA, HACCP, and OSHA as applicable)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees the maintenance team and actively engages with team on all maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repair of machinery and equipment while driving continuous improvements across maintenance to ensure an effective and expedited workflow.
- Provides CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) expertise and leadership to lead team with overseeing, planning, and scheduling of maintenance team and prioritization of projects; defining and maintaining of a preventive maintenance program with generation of work orders and asset tracking; identifying, and qualifying contractors; and ensuring necessary spare parts inventory (with min/max parameters), handling, and care of tools and equipment.
- Accountable for the build and execution of a preventive maintenance program that aligns with OEM standards and Plant performance goals (KPIs).
- Regularly evaluates and assesses maintenance function, equipment, and team performance utilizing Maintenance KPIs to proactively identify solutions, develop actions to address gaps with owner identification and aggressive due dates for completion, standardize workflow to improve efficiency, and ensure effective utilization of resources through the use of the CMMS system.
- Engages with, proactively communicates to, and supports managers of the company to ensure partnership to constantly maintain an environment of coordination and collaboration to achieve company goals and KPI targets.
- Actively participates with leadership to understand the organization's goals, KPIs, and strategy to achieve results by suggesting plans; overseeing equipment needs and acquisition to maximize production efficiency and return; providing insight relates to the layout of electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant equipment; and recommends and implements modifications to facilities.
- Reviews maintenance documentation such as checklists, logs, and reports for effectiveness, accuracy, relevance, and completions while taking necessary action to remediate deficiencies timely and accurately.
- Conducts research and analysis of maintenance improvements to ensure best practices are in place as well as focusing on continuous improvement. Implement Root Cause (RCA) and corrective actions for recurring failures.
- Regularly monitors facilities and equipment; stays current in knowledge, understanding, and awareness of legal requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Supports the development and implementation of departmental budget while ensuring ongoing reporting to key financial targets and re-alignment when necessary.
- Actively participates in meetings and provides support and guidance with leaders, management, and maintenance team.
- Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Owns the organization, cleanliness, and Inventory (Tools, Spare parts and Consumables) of the Maintenance Shop and internal satellite locations throughout the facilities.
- Provide Team Leadership with Supervision, Training, and development of Maintenance Mechanics/Technicians, and Supervision.

Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering or similar field required.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in Maintenance Management role with working knowledge of Refrigeration.
- Previous Maintenance Leadership work experience in a Cold Chain work environment with heavy reliance on Freezer and Refrigeration assets
- Previous leadership experience with packaging and processing equipment in a regulated Food Manufacturing environment
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Personal Characteristics:
- Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully manage a team including, but not limited to, performance planning and reviews, planning, scheduling, leadership, conflict resolution, and training.
- Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and prioritize multiple projects/tasks.
- Promotes a strong Safety Culture and Accountability. Thorough understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations as they pertain to plant operations and maintenance as well as the operation of the systems and equipment used in the food manufacturing industry.
- Ability to use various computer systems, including Microsoft Office, with high levels of proficiency.
- Working hands-on knowledge of CMMS software (X5 eMaint is a Plus) and maintenance planning.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in oral and written communication.
- Self-directed, resourceful, with strong electrical and mechanical trouble-shooting skills and ability to problem solve while making effective decisions in both a team environment and individually.
- Commitment to completing work within established time parameters and within budget while being flexible enough to meet special project deadlines as required.
- Follows policies and procedures; Completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; Supports the organization's goals and values.
