Maintenance Supervisor
Job Description
About Us
We are a rapidly growing manufacturer of transformers, sensors, and electronic assemblies serving switchgear OEMs. With approximately 100 employees in a 60,000 sq. ft. facility, we are expanding operations and preparing to add a second shift. We are seeking a high-level, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead from the shop floor, build long-term structure, and maximize production uptime.
Position Overview
This is not a desk job. This is a working supervisor role requiring a high-level troubleshooter who can directly diagnose and repair complex equipment while establishing maintenance systems from scratch. You will lead a small team of 2 technicians, establish a preventative maintenance (PM) program, and research/implement a new CMMS. This role offers direct vertical growth potential into a Maintenance Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
- Floor Leadership & Repairs: Supervise 2 technicians and step in directly to diagnose and repair 480V/600V electrical, mechanical, and basic control system breakdowns.
- System Building (Ground Up): Design, schedule, and implement a plant-wide Preventative Maintenance (PM) program. Research, select, and deploy a new CMMS to track work orders and inventory.
- Equipment Reliability: Maintain and optimize critical heavy machinery, including annealing furnaces, core/CT/PT coil winding machines, electrical test equipment, and large automated lines.
- Inventory & Spares: Organize the maintenance crib, establish minimum/maximum stock levels for critical spare parts, and eliminate emergency supplier runs.
- Continuous Improvement: Target a 5%+ reduction in equipment downtime within the first year. Identify root causes of failures, lead small capital improvement projects, and train operators to reduce equipment misuse.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of heavy industrial maintenance experience. Prior formal supervisory experience or informal team lead experience is required.
- Technical Entry Level: Must hit the ground running with zero training required on core troubleshooting. Deep expertise in high-voltage electrical (up to 600V), mechanical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Mindset: A practical, urgent problem solver who thrives with limited structure, takes total ownership of plant uptime, and enjoys a "wear multiple hats" environment.
- Tools: Proficient with industrial diagnostic tools, hand/power tools, and basic Microsoft Office.
Preferred Assets (Highly Desired)
- Bilingual: Fluent in English and Spanish is a major plus.
- Education: An engineering background or relevant technical degree is highly helpful.
What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)
- Successfully launch a functional, scheduled PM plan.
- Deploy a working CMMS and maintenance tracking process.
- Measurably reduce equipment downtime by at least 5%.
- Establish smooth maintenance readiness for an upcoming second-shift expansion.
