Job Description
As a Controls Design Engineer at Amazon in the Engineering & Design organization, you will design, implement, and optimize automated control systems that power large-scale fulfillment and data center operations. You’ll create PLC/HMI architectures, specify sensors and actuators, and integrate industrial networks to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable automation solutions. Partnering with software, mechanical, and operations teams, you’ll translate customer and business requirements into robust designs, conduct system modeling and simulations, support commissioning, and drive continuous improvement in performance, safety, and cost efficiency.
Design and develop PLC-based control architectures for automated material handling and IT-related infrastructure systems.
Create specifications for sensors, actuators, VFDs, and control panels to meet performance and safety requirements.
Develop HMI/SCADA screens and control logic for monitoring, diagnostics, and operator interaction.
Integrate control systems with industrial networks and higher-level IT/OT systems (MES, WMS, cloud services).
Perform system modeling, simulation, and validation to ensure reliability, scalability, and throughput targets.
Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of control systems in fulfillment centers and data centers.
Collaborate with software, mechanical, electrical, and operations teams to translate requirements into technical designs.
Develop and maintain documentation, including schematics, I/O lists, functional specifications, and test plans.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, codes, and best practices for industrial automation.
Continuously analyze system performance and drive improvements in reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.
