Job Description
This full-time, permanent Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice position based in Arlington, WA offers an opportunity to develop hands-on skills in mechatronics, robotics, and high-performance material handling systems. You will learn to combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and automation engineering skills to support complex automated packaging and distribution equipment. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, you will help maintain, troubleshoot, and repair robotics and material handling equipment to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Responsibilities
- Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment under the guidance of journey workers and senior technicians.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on conveyance and material handling equipment using established job plans, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotics and robotic work cells to maintain high levels of equipment availability.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues related to material handling equipment components, including motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and related devices.
- Read and interpret measurements, technical documents, and instructions to complete maintenance and repair tasks accurately and safely.
- Assist with diagnosing and resolving issues in material handling equipment, including mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
- Apply safety standards and adhere to all relevant safety regulations, policies, and procedures while performing work in highly automated and robotics facilities.
- Work collaboratively with upstream and downstream operations partners to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and operations staff to share information on equipment status, issues, and completed work.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance equipment reliability, process efficiency, and maintenance quality.
- Complete assigned work at various facilities, including high automation and robotics locations, in connection with service operations.
- Meet physical requirements of the role, including moving up to 49 lbs, standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and performing regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching above the head and below the waist.
- Attend and complete a 9-week external training program with a designated training provider, as required by the apprenticeship program.
- Demonstrate flexibility to relocate after completion of the program, based on business and operational needs.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma.
- At least 1 year of PC software experience, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Vocational or technical training, an associate degree or higher, or at least 1 year of experience in a reliability maintenance engineering environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing operational items.
- Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to support technical troubleshooting and measurement interpretation.
- Experience reading and interpreting measurements accurately.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Self-motivation and the ability to coordinate activities with upstream and downstream operations partners.
- Ability to meet the minimum qualifying score on a Mechanical Aptitude Test.
- Willingness and ability to enroll in and attend a 9-week training program with a designated training provider.
- Flexibility to relocate after completion of the apprenticeship program.
- Ability to safely move up to 49 lbs, stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12-hour shifts), climb ladders and gangways, and perform frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with mechatronics, including the integration of mechanical, electrical, and computer systems.
- Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical systems in an industrial or warehouse environment.
- Experience conducting predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment (MHE).
- Experience implementing and following safety standards in an operations or maintenance setting.
- Experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
- 4+ years of military experience, particularly in technical, maintenance, or engineering roles (preferred).
- Interest in developing skills in automation, robotics, and high-performance manufacturing systems.
- Ability to work from technical documents and instructions while complying with all relevant safety regulations and provisions.

Work Environment
The role is based in a highly automated warehouse facility in Arlington, WA, featuring robotics, conveyance systems, and advanced material handling equipment. You will work around high-performance manufacturing and distribution systems, including robotics work cells, conveyors, motors, sensors, and pneumatic and hydraulic components. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays, and while preferences are considered, specific shift assignments cannot be guaranteed due to operational requirements. The environment requires frequent standing and walking for up to 12-hour shifts, climbing ladders and gangways, and performing regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching. You must be able to safely move up to 49 lbs and work in accordance with strict safety standards, policies, and procedures. The setting is fast-paced and performance-driven, with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and teamwork, and you will use standard maintenance tools, test equipment, and computer-based systems to perform your work.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.84 - $26.84/hr.
