Remote Principal Data Scientist - Machine Learning

Our client, a pioneering technology firm focused on innovative logistics solutions, is looking for a highly experienced Principal Data Scientist to lead their machine learning initiatives. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to work on challenging problems with a talented team from anywhere in the US. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated machine learning models that drive key business decisions and enhance operational efficiency across the company. The ideal candidate will have a deep expertise in various ML techniques, strong programming skills, and a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced machine learning models for areas such as predictive analytics, optimization, and anomaly detection.
• Identify opportunities to leverage data science and ML to solve complex business problems within the logistics and transportation domains.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate ML models into production systems and ensure scalability and performance.
• Perform data exploration, feature engineering, and model validation on large, complex datasets.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and evaluate their potential application.
• Mentor junior data scientists and guide technical direction for ML projects.
• Communicate complex technical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and ML infrastructure.
• Contribute to the company's data strategy and foster a data-driven culture.
• Conduct A/B testing and other experimental designs to measure the impact of ML solutions.

Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in Data Science and Machine Learning, with a significant portion in a leadership or principal role.
• Expertise in a wide range of machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, deep learning, NLP).
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
• Strong experience with SQL and working with large-scale datasets.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Spark).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
• Proven ability to lead projects from conception to deployment in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience in the logistics or transportation industry is a significant plus.
