Remote Instructional Designer - Higher Education

Our client, a distinguished university renowned for its innovative online programs, is seeking a talented and creative Remote Instructional Designer to join their dedicated e-learning team. This role is essential for developing high-quality, engaging, and pedagogically sound online courses that meet the academic rigor of higher education. The ideal candidate will be passionate about leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience and possess a strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and learning management systems (LMS). This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the US, requiring excellent communication and self-management skills.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with faculty subject matter experts to design and develop engaging online courses and learning materials.
  • Apply established instructional design principles and models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to create effective learning experiences.
  • Develop course content, including learning objectives, assessments, multimedia elements, and interactive activities.
  • Utilize e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) and multimedia software to create engaging content.
  • Integrate various technologies and tools to enhance online learning, such as simulations, virtual labs, and interactive videos.
  • Ensure online courses are accessible, compliant with WCAG standards, and adhere to university quality benchmarks.
  • Manage multiple course development projects simultaneously, adhering to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Provide support and training to faculty on best practices for online teaching and course design.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of online courses through student feedback and learning analytics, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in online learning, instructional design, and higher education.
  • Work collaboratively with a remote team of instructional designers, multimedia specialists, and technical support staff.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the university's online learning strategy and offerings.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Curriculum Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in instructional design, specifically within higher education.
  • Proven experience developing online courses for various LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle).
  • Proficiency with e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Captivate, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical theories, adult learning principles, and online course design best practices.
  • Experience with multimedia development tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively remotely.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and universal design for learning (UDL).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a remote work environment.
  • A portfolio showcasing successful online course designs is highly desirable.
