Principal Geotechnical Engineer - Remote Project Support
Job Description
Our client is a renowned engineering consultancy seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to provide expert technical support and project leadership for a variety of complex projects, working entirely remotely. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful geotechnical aspects of infrastructure, commercial, and industrial developments. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design, coupled with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage projects from a distance.
Your responsibilities will include performing advanced geotechnical analyses for foundation design, slope stability, seismic assessments, and earth retention systems. You will review and interpret subsurface investigation data, including soil borings and CPT results, and develop comprehensive geotechnical reports. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams, ensuring the highest standards of engineering practice. This role involves close collaboration with clients, project managers, and construction teams to address geotechnical challenges and provide practical, cost-effective solutions. Reviewing construction methods and observing geotechnical aspects of construction will also be part of the scope, conducted virtually and through site visit coordination where necessary.
We require a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is mandatory, and an additional Geotechnical (GEO) specialty certification is highly desirable. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering consulting is required, with a proven track record of leading complex projects. Extensive experience with geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio, FLAC) and strong understanding of relevant building codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, IBC) are essential. Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills are vital for remote collaboration and client interaction. This fully remote position offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in the US, supporting diverse projects across various locations, with a focus on ensuring quality for our work related to infrastructure needs in areas like Portland, Oregon, US .
