Manager, Software Engineering

Overview

The Mastercard Authentication team has an exciting opportunity for a Manager of Software Engineering to enhance and modernize our payments services. This position will be key to growing a global technology platform operating at scale, requiring focus on performance, security, and reliability.

Role
  • Manage multiple scrum teams of software developers and testers to deliver quality software solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Lead definition, development and delivery of major crossdepartment initiatives with broad scope and longterm business implications.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to software development teams in Java, microservices, Rest APIs, and eventbased applications and platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with product and architecture teams on product definition, technical design, and overall execution.
  • Ensure projects are adequately staffed, trained, and managed; communicate performance results and manage within approved manpower and budget guidelines.
  • Automate and simplify all aspects of software delivery by advocating for automation where needed.
  • Own complex problems with crossservice dependencies and facilitate crossfunctional interactions to drive resolution.
  • Define, design, and develop procedures and solutions at a service level to meet business requirements and enhancements.
  • Drive prioritization decisions and tradeoffs in collaboration with product partners.
  • Promote a blameless postmortem culture to identify root causes of incidents and implement learning.
  • Lead by example with handson engineering excellence.
  • Champion AIaugmented development and connect AI agents with enterprise tools (e.g., Jira, CI/CD pipelines, code repositories).
All About You
  • Handson experience in designing solutions and fullstack development for large enterprise technology platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of software development principles, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Specific expertise in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, Rest APIs, Kafka, Oracle, and test automation frameworks.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions focused on performance, security, scalability, availability, extensibility, and resiliency.
  • Operate with urgency, fairness and decency to address challenges and pursue new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams, including product management, BizOps, TechOps, and customer experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, relationship building, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies of software development and SDLC practices.
  • Independent interaction with product and business stakeholders.
  • Strong decisionmaking, retrospection, and continuous improvement.
  • Enthusiastic, ambitious, and confident.

Benefits and Pay

In line with Mastercards total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. The base salary offered may vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to location, jobrelated knowledge, skills, and experience.

Mastercard benefits for fulltime employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance); a flexible spending account and health savings account; paid leaves (including 16 weeks of new parent leave and up to 20 days of bereavement leave); 80 hours of paid sick and safe time; 25 days of vacation time and 5 personal days, prorated based on date of hire; 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays; 401(k) with a bestinclass company match; deferred compensation for eligible roles; fitness reimbursement or onsite fitness facilities; eligibility for tuition reimbursement; and many more.

Pay Ranges: O'Fallon, Missouri: $140,000 $231,000 USD.
