Our client, a cutting-edge Virtual Reality development studio, is seeking an exceptionally talented Lead Sound Designer to shape immersive auditory experiences for their next generation of VR titles. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking projects from anywhere in the US. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of spatial audio, Foley, sound effects creation, and mixing techniques, with a proven ability to craft compelling soundscapes that enhance player immersion and emotional connection.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the audio design vision and execution for VR game projects, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality auditory experience.
  • Design, create, and implement a wide range of sound effects, ambient soundscapes, music integration, and voiceovers.
  • Utilize advanced spatial audio techniques to create realistic and immersive 3D sound environments tailored for VR.
  • Collaborate closely with game designers, narrative teams, and programmers to integrate audio seamlessly into gameplay mechanics and narrative progression.
  • Record, edit, and mix audio assets, ensuring clarity, impact, and adherence to technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain audio middleware integration (e.g., Wwise, FMOD) for dynamic sound playback and implementation within the game engine.
  • Oversee sound recording sessions, working with voice actors and Foley artists to achieve desired results.
  • Manage audio assets, ensuring organization, version control, and efficient workflow.
  • Mentor and guide junior sound designers, providing feedback and technical direction.
  • Stay at the forefront of VR audio technology, researching and implementing new tools and techniques.
  • Optimize audio performance to ensure smooth frame rates and minimal memory footprint within the VR environment.
  • Conduct regular audio reviews and playtests to gather feedback and refine the sound design.
  • Develop and maintain audio style guides and technical documentation.
  • Proactively identify and solve audio-related technical challenges.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Music Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in sound design, with at least 3 years in interactive media or game development, specifically for VR.
  • Expertise in audio editing software (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Cubase) and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
  • Strong experience with audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD.
  • Proficiency with spatial audio techniques and technologies.
  • Deep understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and sound mixing principles.
  • Experience with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Strong creative and artistic sensibilities, with a keen ear for detail.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects effectively in a remote setting.
  • A portfolio showcasing exceptional VR sound design work is required.
