Remote Lead Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Lead Mechanical Engineer to join their fully remote engineering team. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, US , but operating entirely remotely, this role is critical for driving the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical components and systems. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of engineering principles, a passion for problem-solving, and a proven track record of leading complex projects. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, analyzing, and overseeing the implementation of mechanical solutions that meet stringent performance and reliability requirements.

- Spearhead the mechanical design and development of new products and systems, ensuring alignment with project goals and technical specifications.
- Conduct advanced engineering analyses, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to optimize design performance and identify potential failure modes.
- Collaborate effectively with remote colleagues across various disciplines, including electrical, software, and systems engineering, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using industry-standard software.
- Create and execute comprehensive test plans for prototypes and production units, analyzing results and recommending design improvements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of mechanical engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets for mechanical engineering tasks, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
- Document designs, analyses, and test results thoroughly to comply with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in mechanical engineering and propose their adoption where beneficial.
- Act as a subject matter expert for mechanical design, offering solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in mechanical design and engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo) and CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Proven experience in performing complex structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic analyses.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., CNC machining, additive manufacturing, plastic injection molding).
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, vital for effective remote collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Experience with agile development methodologies is preferred.
- Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
