Lead Electrical Engineer - Automation & Control Systems

Our client, a leader in advanced manufacturing and industrial automation, is seeking a highly experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join their innovative team in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US . This pivotal role involves the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical control systems and automation solutions for cutting-edge industrial machinery. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, providing technical direction and ensuring the successful execution of projects from concept to deployment. Responsibilities include designing electrical schematics, selecting components, programming PLCs and HMIs, troubleshooting complex electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and industry standards. You will also be involved in evaluating new technologies and driving continuous improvement in our automation processes.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems engineering. A Master's degree and/or professional engineering (PE) license are strongly preferred. Proven expertise in PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens), HMI development, robotics integration, and industrial network protocols is essential. Strong understanding of electrical codes (NEC, NFPA 79) and safety standards is required. Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are critical for guiding the team and collaborating with cross-functional departments. Experience in project management, including budgeting and scheduling, is also highly valued. This role is based in our Grand Rapids, Michigan, US facility and offers a hybrid work arrangement, balancing essential on-site work with remote flexibility.
