Lead Geotechnical Engineer (Remote)

Our client, a prominent global engineering firm specializing in resource extraction and infrastructure development, is seeking an experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in a fully remote capacity. This senior role will be responsible for overseeing complex geotechnical investigations and analyses for major mining and civil engineering projects worldwide. You will lead project teams, provide expert technical guidance, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety in all geotechnical designs and recommendations. Your expertise will be critical in assessing ground conditions, designing foundations, slopes, tunnels, and earth retaining structures, as well as managing seismic hazard evaluations. You will play a vital role in the planning and execution of site investigations, including drilling programs, in-situ testing, and laboratory analysis interpretation. The Lead Geotechnical Engineer will be expected to prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and drawings, and to liaunt with clients, regulatory bodies, and other project stakeholders. This role requires a deep understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology, along with extensive experience in numerical modeling and software applications relevant to geotechnical engineering. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and mentor junior engineers is essential. Essential duties include:
  • Leading and managing geotechnical investigations for large-scale mining and infrastructure projects.
  • Performing advanced geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, foundation design, seismic hazard assessment, and tunnel support.
  • Interpreting subsurface data from boreholes, CPT, and geophysical surveys.
  • Overseeing laboratory testing programs and analyzing results.
  • Developing detailed geotechnical design recommendations and specifications.
  • Preparing comprehensive geotechnical reports, proposals, and technical presentations.
  • Managing project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers and geologists.
  • Collaborating with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and best practices in geotechnical engineering.
  • Contributing to the development of new methodologies and technologies in geotechnical engineering.
  • Conducting peer reviews of geotechnical designs and reports.

Qualifications: A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus, or a related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant emphasis on mining-related projects. Professional Engineer (PE) license in a relevant jurisdiction is highly desirable. Proven experience in leading project teams and managing complex geotechnical projects. Expertise in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GEO5, FLAC, or similar. Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, hydrogeology, and engineering geology. Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and secure new business. Experience with risk assessment and mitigation strategies in geotechnical projects. Ability to work independently and lead effectively in a remote team environment.
