Responsibilities:
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and development of mechanical systems for robotic applications, including manipulators, mobile platforms, and end-effectors.
- Perform advanced engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to optimize designs for strength, stiffness, and thermal performance.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software engineers, and control systems specialists to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
- Manage the prototyping and testing phases, iterating on designs based on empirical data and performance feedback.
- Drive innovation by researching and evaluating new materials, manufacturing processes, and emerging technologies relevant to robotics.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of mechanical engineers, promoting best practices in design and analysis.
- Contribute to the definition and refinement of product requirements and system architectures.
- Manage project timelines and deliverables within the mechanical engineering domain for remote projects.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. PhD preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering, with a significant focus on robotics or mechatronics.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams.
- Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
- In-depth knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes (machining, 3D printing, injection molding), and design for manufacturability (DFM).
- Strong understanding of control systems, kinematics, and dynamics as applied to robotics.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a systematic approach to complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with proven success in a remote team setting.
- Experience with agile development methodologies is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive projects to completion in a remote environment.
