Our client, an acclaimed indie game studio known for its innovative and critically praised titles, is searching for a visionary Lead Game Designer to join their entirely remote team. This position offers the unique opportunity to shape the creative direction and gameplay mechanics of exciting new projects from concept to release, all from the convenience of your home office. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in game design, a deep understanding of player psychology, and a passion for crafting immersive and memorable interactive experiences. You will be responsible for leading a talented team of designers, guiding them in developing compelling game systems, innovative mechanics, and engaging narratives.
Your core responsibilities will include conceptualizing game ideas, defining core gameplay loops, designing intricate game systems (e.g., progression, combat, economy), and creating detailed design documentation (GDDs, feature specs). You will collaborate closely with artists, programmers, and producers to ensure a cohesive and high-quality product. Mentoring and guiding junior designers, fostering a collaborative and creative team environment, and providing constructive feedback are key aspects of this role. You will also play a significant role in prototyping and playtesting game features, iterating based on feedback to refine the player experience. The ability to communicate your vision effectively to the team and stakeholders is paramount. This is a fully remote role, demanding strong self-discipline, excellent communication skills via digital platforms, and the ability to manage time effectively in a distributed work environment. You will be at the forefront of creative innovation, contributing to the studio's reputation for unique and engaging game development.
Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Game Design, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. A minimum of 7 years of professional game design experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or senior design role, is essential. A strong portfolio showcasing shipped titles and exceptional game design contributions is mandatory. Expertise in designing for PC and/or console platforms is required. Proficiency in game design tools and engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine) and a deep understanding of various game genres are necessary. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial for guiding and inspiring a design team. A passion for video games and a keen understanding of market trends and player expectations are highly valued. Experience with narrative design and level design is a plus.
