Lead Industrial Automation Engineer (Remote)
Job Description
Our client, a global leader in manufacturing technology, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Industrial Automation Engineer to join their fully remote team. This position is crucial for driving innovation and efficiency in our automated production processes worldwide. You will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated automation systems, including PLCs, robotics, SCADA, and MES. This role requires a deep understanding of industrial control systems, manufacturing processes, and the ability to lead complex automation projects from concept to completion.

- Lead the design and development of automated manufacturing systems and processes.
- Develop PLC programs, HMI screens, and SCADA system configurations.
- Specify and integrate robotic systems, vision systems, and other automated equipment.
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and validation of automation solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation issues in production environments.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation, including control narratives, wiring diagrams, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define automation requirements and objectives.
- Mentor and guide junior automation engineers and technicians.
- Implement Industry 4.0 technologies such as IIoT, data analytics, and machine learning for process optimization.
- Ensure automation systems comply with safety standards, regulations, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Manage automation project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Conduct root cause analysis for production downtime related to automation.
- Evaluate and recommend new automation technologies and solutions.
- Provide remote support and expertise to manufacturing sites globally.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in industrial automation engineering.
- Extensive experience with various PLC platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Omron).
- Proficiency in HMI/SCADA software (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware).
- Hands-on experience with industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB) and vision systems.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and discrete manufacturing environments.
- Experience with networking protocols commonly used in industrial automation (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and influence teams.
- Experience with IIoT platforms and data acquisition systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for critical on-site support if absolutely necessary.
