Remote Industrial Automation Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Industrial Automation Engineer to join their forward-thinking team. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute to innovative projects from the comfort of your home office, ideally within the San Diego, California region or with strong ties to US time zones. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automated control systems for various industrial processes. Your expertise will drive efficiency, quality, and safety across our clients' operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Develop and implement automation strategies to optimize manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs.
  • Integrate various industrial control systems, robotics, and data acquisition technologies.
  • Create and maintain detailed system documentation, including electrical schematics, network diagrams, and operational manuals.
  • Perform remote diagnostics and troubleshooting of automation systems to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and production staff, to define project requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Develop and implement cybersecurity measures for industrial control systems.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in automation technology, including AI, IIoT, and machine learning applications in industrial settings.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
  • Provide technical support and training to client personnel as needed.
  • Participate in project planning, estimation, and proposal development.
  • Analyze system performance data and recommend improvements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial automation engineering.
  • Proven expertise with major PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modicon) and HMI/SCADA software (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Wonderware, Ignition).
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience with robotics integration (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#) for automation is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Ability to manage projects and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with cybersecurity best practices in industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex automation solutions.
