Remote Senior Industrial Automation Engineer

Job Description

Our client, a leader in advanced manufacturing, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Remote Senior Industrial Automation Engineer to join their dynamic team. This role is fully remote, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within the US, while contributing to cutting-edge projects. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems and processes for our manufacturing facilities. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of automation technologies, PLC programming, SCADA systems, and robotics, coupled with a strong ability to troubleshoot complex issues and drive innovation.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, and commission industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and robotic cells.
  • Develop and maintain detailed electrical schematics, control logic, and system documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, software developers, and production staff, to define automation requirements and solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation and control system issues in a timely manner, ensuring minimal production downtime.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement automation solutions to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Develop and execute test plans for automation systems to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Provide remote technical support and training to plant personnel on automation systems and processes.
  • Research and evaluate new automation technologies and recommend their adoption where appropriate.
  • Ensure all automation designs and implementations comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Contribute to project planning, budgeting, and scheduling for automation initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial automation engineering, with a focus on PLC programming (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens) and HMI/SCADA development.
  • Proficiency in robotic programming (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB) and vision systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
  • Experience with system integration and troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Experience with CAD software for electrical design.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies is desirable.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US and able to work remotely.
