Senior Remote Industrial Automation Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Remote Industrial Automation Engineer to join their innovative, remote-first engineering team. This position focuses on the design, development, implementation, and support of automated control systems for industrial processes. You will leverage your expertise in PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems, and robotics to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and reliability from a remote location. The ideal candidate possesses a strong aptitude for problem-solving, a deep understanding of industrial control logic, and excellent communication skills for collaborating with on-site teams and management.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop control system architectures for new automation projects, specifying PLCs, HMIs, and associated hardware.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs from various manufacturers (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron) using ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams.
  • Develop intuitive and user-friendly Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens and SCADA systems for process monitoring and control.
  • Implement and maintain industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Perform remote commissioning and testing of automated systems, collaborating closely with field technicians.
  • Develop detailed documentation, including control narratives, electrical schematics, and user manuals.
  • Provide remote technical support and troubleshooting for existing automation systems, minimizing downtime.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in industrial automation technology, including IIoT, machine learning, and advanced robotics.
  • Mentor junior automation engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the remote team.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial automation and control system engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming and configuring PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Siemens S7).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA software (e.g., FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition).
  • Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with robotics programming (e.g., FANUC, KUKA) is a significant plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex issues remotely.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with remote and on-site personnel.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks in a fully remote setting.
  • Must have a dedicated home office with reliable high-speed internet and a stable power supply.
