Remote Senior Mechanical Engineer - Robotics

Job Description

Our client, a leader in advanced automation and robotics, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative product development team. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects from your own workspace. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical design, analysis, and prototyping, with a specialization in robotics and mechatronics. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing complex mechanical systems for robotic applications, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Responsibilities include creating detailed 3D CAD models, performing finite element analysis (FEA) and simulations, and generating manufacturing drawings. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and control systems specialists to integrate mechanical components into complete robotic solutions. This role requires a strong understanding of material science, mechanisms, actuators, sensors, and control theory as applied to robotics. You will also be involved in troubleshooting design issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing design improvements. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will contribute to defining product requirements, architecting new designs, and overseeing the prototyping and validation phases. This position demands excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting. Experience with complex assemblies, precision engineering, and system integration is crucial. Join our client and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of robotics.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and test complex mechanical systems and components for robotic platforms.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and generate manufacturing drawings using software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other simulations to validate designs for stress, thermal, and motion performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, on integrated system design.
  • Specify materials, components, and manufacturing processes for robotic systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans for mechanical subsystems and integrated robotic products.
  • Troubleshoot design issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement design modifications.
  • Contribute to product definition, requirements gathering, and system architecture.
  • Maintain design documentation, including design history files and BOMs.
  • Stay current with advancements in mechanical engineering, robotics, and related technologies.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering, with a strong focus on robotics.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD modeling and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS).
  • Proficiency in kinematic and dynamic analysis of robotic systems.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechatronics.
  • Experience with actuators, sensors, and control systems for robotics.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration in a remote environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects autonomously.
  • Experience with automation, motion control, or mechatronic product development.
