Our client, a global leader in chemical manufacturing and innovation, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their esteemed team. This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of safety in our chemical processing operations through rigorous analysis and proactive risk management. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHAs), developing and implementing safety protocols, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance across all facilities. This position requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles and a commitment to safeguarding personnel, the environment, and company assets.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in process safety management (PSM) within the chemical industry. Responsibilities will include leading PHA studies (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA), developing and reviewing safety procedures, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as OSHA PSM and EPA RMP. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and management teams to integrate safety into the design and operation of chemical processes. A strong analytical mindset, excellent problem-solving abilities, and exceptional communication skills are essential for success. This role requires a dedicated professional who thrives in a challenging environment and is committed to fostering a robust safety culture. This position requires the engineer to be based at our facility near Kansas City, Missouri, US , with occasional travel to other sites as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
  • Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and other relevant regulations.
  • Conduct safety reviews of new and modified processes and equipment.
  • Investigate process safety incidents and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver training on process safety principles and procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to integrate safety into project lifecycles.
  • Maintain process safety information (PSI) and ensure its accuracy and accessibility.
  • Monitor industry best practices and emerging trends in process safety.
  • Champion a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical or petrochemical industry.
  • Extensive knowledge of PHA methodologies and PSM regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software and safety analysis tools.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Experience in emergency response planning is a plus.
