Fleet Operations Director - Remote
Job Description
Our client, a national leader in transportation services, is seeking a strategic and experienced Fleet Operations Director to lead its extensive fleet management operations. This is a fully remote position, allowing you the flexibility to manage this critical function from any location. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of fleet optimization, regulatory compliance, safety management, and cost control within a large-scale transportation network. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of thousands of vehicles across the country.

- Develop and execute strategic plans for the efficient operation and management of the company's diverse fleet.
- Oversee all aspects of fleet maintenance, repair, and lifecycle management to minimize downtime and costs.
- Ensure strict adherence to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including DOT and FMCSA requirements.
- Implement and enforce comprehensive safety programs to protect drivers, the public, and company assets.
- Manage relationships with vehicle manufacturers, parts suppliers, and maintenance vendors.
- Optimize fleet utilization, routing, and fuel efficiency to reduce operational expenses.
- Develop and manage the fleet operations budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
- Lead and mentor a distributed team of fleet managers, dispatchers, and support staff.
- Utilize fleet management software and telematics data to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement strategies for acquiring and disposing of fleet assets effectively.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as safety, HR, and finance, to ensure integrated operations.
- Analyze fleet performance data to identify areas for cost savings and efficiency gains.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to fleet operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in fleet management or operations, with a significant portion in a director-level or senior management role.
- Proven experience managing large, complex fleets across multiple geographic locations.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other relevant transportation regulations.
- Demonstrated success in developing and implementing fleet safety programs.
- Strong understanding of fleet maintenance strategies, vehicle procurement, and disposal processes.
- Experience with fleet management software, telematics, and data analytics tools.
- Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent financial acumen and budget management capabilities.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
