Remote Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their fully remote product development team. This role is pivotal in leading the design and development of cutting-edge mechanical systems and components, driving innovation from concept to production. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire mechanical design process, ensuring that all designs meet stringent performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements. Your expertise will be critical in conceptualizing new product designs, creating detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD), and performing advanced engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes. You will lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance, fostering collaboration, and ensuring project milestones are met on time and within budget. Key responsibilities include collaborating with cross-functional teams (electrical engineering, software development, product management), conducting design reviews, and working closely with manufacturing partners to optimize designs for mass production. This position requires exceptional problem-solving skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating innovative and efficient mechanical solutions. As a fully remote role, outstanding communication, collaboration, and self-management skills are essential for success. You will be instrumental in shaping the direction of our client's mechanical engineering efforts and delivering high-quality products to market.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development.
  • Proven experience leading mechanical engineering projects and teams.
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
  • Proficiency in performing engineering analysis, including FEA and CFD.
  • Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, 3D printing), and prototyping.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
  • Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturability) principles.
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management (PLM) software is a plus.
